DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP

Trainee Estimator/Quantity Surveyor

(Commercial Construction – Interior Fit-Out Industry)

Landmark Interiors Ltd is a successful, local Interior Fit-Out company, established in 2004 and based in Newport, situated next to the train station.  We work throughout the UK, predominantly in central London, completing Interior Fit-Out works for main contractors.  We specialise in dry lining & suspended ceilings but can also offer full fit-out refurbishments for direct customers.

Due to company expansion, we are offering a Degree Apprenticeship and seeking an enthusiastic individual in the role of Trainee Estimator/Quantity Surveyor. This is a fantastic local opportunity for someone who would like to complete a Degree whilst working and earning a salary and pursue a career in commercial construction.

The degree apprenticeship combines full-time paid work and part-time university study to gain a full Bachelors degree while partaking in practical, on-the-job training. During term-time, 4 days per week (8.30am-5pm) will spent in the office (and occasional on-site visits) completing on-the-job training and 1 day spent at University completing a 5.5 year part-time degree (Chartered Surveying Degree Apprenticeship – Quantity Surveying BSc (Hons) at London South Bank University, commencing September 2019).  Outside of term time, 5 days per week will be spent working within the office.

As well as holding employment status and receiving a wage in line with Apprenticeship salary guidelines, the apprentice’s tuition fees will be paid for in full between the government apprenticeship scheme and Landmark Interiors Ltd, the employer.

Skills & person specification

As well as a strong mathematical ability, the successful candidate will be confidant, determined, enjoy problem solving and have strong analytical and communication skills. An ability to work well within a team and to work to deadlines under pressure is also advantageous.  Knowledge of the construction industry is desirable but not essential.

Working under the Commercial Managing Director, as an Estimator, your responsibilities will be to put together estimates of how much it will cost to provide potential customers with our fit-out products & services. The position involves assessing a broad range of materials, labour and equipment costs and analysing different quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers to effectively put together a tender quotation for our main contractor construction customers.

We are an equal opportunities employer and keen to encourage the right person for the role.  We would prefer a candidate who is completing A-levels in 2019, however, we will also consider candidates who show the right abilities and are mid-way through completion of A-levels or in the last year of their GSCE’s.  For the former, the role will be offered subject to the candidate obtaining the necessary points and obtaining a successful application on to the LSBU degree course (which we will be able to offer assistance/advice in applying for).  For those who are not completing A-levels this academic year, we will discuss the various part-time study options available to enable the route on to the degree course in subsequent years.
